[ they're still not entirely sure how it started.

the most popular theory is aliens, of course. it's almost always aliens, followed by the joker, and then science going very wrong. but in reality, no one is actually positive as to what started what everyone is calling the end of days-- some kind of virus or infection that makes people turn into what stephanie refuses to call zombies because. no. they did zombies already, she refuses.

other things she refuses to say? that is the actual end of days. sure, it's been over a month since it all started and no one has been able to pin down how exactly to stop this mess, but this is just the kind of world they live in. weird shit happens, and then the heroes stop it. she doesn't see how this will be any different.

currently, they're in a set of suburbs outside of gotham. they heard a signal for help from a small group of families who boarded themselves up in their local ymca. getting to them has been more difficult than she would care to admit. at the moment they are inside a house just down the street from the location, planning out how to get inside without things blowing up in their face. ]

I miss the days where you could just burst into the front door. I never actually got to do that, but it seems like it would be neat?

[ No one's actually sure where it begins, and Rose doesn't bother with the conspiracy theories, the wherefores and hows. The important thing is she's angry (she is always angry, that's besides the point) and these are squishy meatbags she can skewer. No one gets their panties in a twist over zombies. ]

[ And Rose knows how to survive better than most. It's just — she still has the Titans communicator, and Tim calls. Nice to know you care, she tells him, flat, first thing, and after his needlessly defensive reply, I'm a big girl, I can handle this. She shows up at this rendez-vous, sizing Steph up, and tailing her silently. ]

Personally, I want to smash through the skylight. It's on my bucket list.

That's not as fun as it looks.

[ it does make for a cool looking entrance though. she walks towards the window to peek through the blinks and... yup. the street is still filled with them. since steph spends most of her time in the city, she has to wonder if the suburbs actually houses this many people for there to be so many of them around, or if she should be calling bullshit here. ]

I don't think waiting them out is going to work anymore. We might as well move. [ a pause. ] We're not really going through the skylight are we?

[ Spoken like someone without a healing factor. Rose's smirk unfurls briskly, and she draws both her swords, almost at the door. ]

Keep up.

[ It'd be fun, but nobody's watching who'd appreciate the entrance or the reference. She slinks to the alley, keeping to the shadows, and calls to Steph softly, ]

Flank 'em, or one of us plays distraction?

[ let the bats and their lack of healing factors live.

she considers the options, pulling out a small stick that will extend into a longer pole once she presses a button. ]

Flank. [ a pause. ] Ever notice how that stops sounding like a word the more you say it?

[ Cool toy. Swords are better. ]

Sure. Like organic.

[ She grins, and it curves to sharp points. ]

I'm gonna keep count of how many bodies we drop. You can have a head start.

[ it's tough being a bat and being surrounded by people who are completely okay with stabbing everything??

steph snorts, twirling her weapon around for a few seconds. ]

The last person who told me I could have a head start is currently suffering from a broken arm, fyi. On the count of three?

[ you people don't stab things?? you're missing out ]

[ (this is also why Damian is her favourite) ]

[ Said in a single breath. Rose smirks. ]

[ damian needs to chill?? (steph loves him but she won't admit it out loud)

at the count, though, she moves. stephanie is trying to make sure she keeps an eye on rose, just in case something goes wrong there even though she doubts it. the girl can take care of herself, after all.

she's mostly hoping that they can get by most of them without fighting too much. getting in isn't the hard part, but getting all those people out will be. wasting all their energy here might bite them in the ass later. ]

[ She feels the prickle on her neck that means she's being watched: Rose is sensitive to scrutiny. Steph looking at her feels different from Tim sizing her up. Steph has nothing over her except the possibility of killing more of these things than her. ]

[ It's unexpectedly relieving. Rose lands without a sound, keeping her swords from reflecting any light. For all the good it does: she's not really about the element of surprise. Nah, Rose is more run in and start cutting whatever comes at you. ]

[ Mind the blood, Steph. ]

[ if anything, steph is mostly relieved this is the suburbs and not the actual city. they would have to cut through a lot more of them otherwise, and even though they know there is no way of reversing this and making these people actually people again, watching them get sliced through still leaves a bad feeling in the pit of her stomach.

it really is hard stepping out of a batman mindset sometimes. ]

[ She grins, wide, sharklike. Rose's fighting style sings for blood: aggressive, unyielding. Defence is her strength, but there's no need when her particular clairvoyance sees it all coming. ]

You seem like you're enjoying yourself.

[ from one of the other batkids, like tim, her comment may have come off as more critical. steph definitely does not sound pleased about it, but there's a touch of understanding in her tone that she doesn't usually tap into nowadays. but it's there. ]
